The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong has officially welcomed its PGP Class of 2028, marking the beginning of the 2026-28 academic session. Students representing diverse geographies, experiences, and aspirations have begun arriving and settling into the residential campus. In its official communication shared on LinkedIn, the institute noted that the incoming cohort would “further enrich the institute’s vibrant community.”
The batch was selected through a rigorous two-phase admissions process based on CAT 2025 performance, personal interviews, academic consistency, and diversity considerations. Approximately 380 students have joined the flagship two-year full-time residential programme that leads to an MBA degree. The selection framework balances CAT scores (40%), personal interview performance (40%), academic rating (10%), and gender diversity (10%), while incorporating category-wise reservations and proportional representation across academic disciplines. Final-year candidates were granted provisional admission, subject to completing their undergraduate degrees by December 2026.
Picturesque ‘Campus in the Clouds’ Sets the Scene
Nestled in the rolling hills of Shillong amid pine forests and crisp mountain air, IIM Shillong’s Umsawli campus — often described as the “Campus in the Clouds” or “7th Heaven” — provides a distinctive and inspiring environment for management education. Institute communications emphasise how the serene setting “uplifts the spirits” and encourages students to explore new possibilities. New arrivals are participating in initial orientation activities aimed at familiarising them with the institute’s pedagogy, values, and vibrant student life.
Programme Structure and Core Priorities
The PGP spans six terms over two years, featuring core courses in the first year, electives in the second, and a mandatory two-month summer internship following the first year. The curriculum places strong emphasis on contemporary managerial problem-solving, interpersonal skills, ethical leadership, sustainability challenges, and contextual awareness relevant to India’s Northeast and global economies. IIM Shillong holds AACSB and EQUIS accreditations and continues to highlight community engagement and responsible business practices as central to its mission.
Orientation and the Road Ahead
Following registration and orientation, the batch will follow the structured academic calendar, which includes a Community Immersion Programme orientation scheduled for December 2026. This component aligns with the institute’s focus on real-world exposure and societal impact. Senior officials have expressed confidence that the new cohort will actively contribute to classroom discussions, campus initiatives, and the institute’s broader goals. Social media channels have amplified warm welcome messages, reflecting the excitement surrounding the fresh academic year.
With the PGP Class of 2028 now on campus, IIM Shillong reinforces its position as a leading management institution in the Northeast, preparing future leaders in one of India’s most scenic and intellectually stimulating settings.
