The landmark Digital Volunteers meeting held on December 24, 2025 at Bareilly Police Lines has inspired a fresh wave of civic engagement among social media creators and influencers.
The Influencers Community of Bareilly Zone — a self-organised group of more than 100 active social media influencers drawn from all nine districts of the zone — has formally approached Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Bareilly Zone Ramit Sharma, requesting a dedicated awareness session on the workings of the Digital Volunteers programme and the laws governing digital content.
Background: December 24, 2025 Meeting
The immediate catalyst for this request was the high-profile Digital Volunteers meeting chaired by ADG Sharma and attended by senior officers including the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bareilly Range, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bareilly and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rampur. That day-long session brought together 112 carefully selected digital volunteers chosen from more than 82,000 enrolments after a rigorous nine-month verification process.
The meeting covered critical topics such as deepfakes, digital arrest scams, information disorder, the AI officer Jarvis and laws governing online content. It received wide media coverage.
For social media influencers watching from outside the formal volunteer network, the coverage was both informative and motivating. The substance of the discussions was directly relevant to their own daily work as active content creators. They realised they were already operating in the same digital ecosystem the Digital Volunteers programme aims to protect. Their first formal request letter followed within a week on December 31, 2025.
Influencers Community of Bareilly Zone — a self-organised community
The community is led by President Yash Gupta, Secretary Azhar, Treasurer Harsh and Advisor Siddhant. Its members regularly create and amplify content across platforms on local issues, civic life and community matters — work that, as they themselves recognise, carries legal responsibilities they wanted to better understand.
In their letter, the community has requested the ADG to explain how the Digital Volunteers programme works and to provide an opportunity for interested members to explore joining it. They have also asked for a dedicated session explaining the laws every social media influencer is bound by simply by virtue of their digital activity.
The community wants the session to provide clarity on the legal limits and responsibilities for content creation and distribution; assurance that their content does not hurt the sentiments of any person, class, religion, sect or community; guidance on stopping the rapid spread of misleading or false information; and practical direction on creating content responsibly and safely.
The police administration has promptly accepted the request and scheduled the special session for January 18, 2026, at Bareilly Police Lines.
Speaking to NDD, ADG Ramit Sharma said: “We were delighted when the Social Media Influencers of Bareilly Zone approached us following the December 24 Digital Volunteers meeting. They showed keen interest in the Digital Volunteers Programme and requested a dedicated session to understand the laws governing digital content creation. We have scheduled the special meeting for Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Bareilly Police Lines.”
Influencers from all nine districts of Bareilly Zone — Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha, Sambhal and Bijnor — are expected to attend.
The Influencers Community of Bareilly Zone has started preparing the participant’s list for the January 18 meeting.
