The Samajwadi Party has secured a clear majority in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. It won 224 seats, compared to the 202 needed for a majority. The Bahujan Samaj Party won 79 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 47. The Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal together won 38 seats. Uttar Pradesh has a total of 403 assembly seats.
The Samajwadi Party had maintained a lead since the initial trends began to emerge on Tuesday morning, and it steadily increased.Psephologists had predicted that the Samajwadi Party would emerge as the largest party, but no one anticipated that it would surpass the Bahujan Samaj Party's victory last time.As the results gradually began to trickle in, discussions about whether the Samajwadi Party would seek Congress's support or whether Congress would support the SP ceased. Now, the SP is poised to form the government on its own.
